Moving Dublin explores the everyday world of movement in Dublin and its vast sprawling suburbs spreading out west from the coastal city. We look at how far the contemporary world of the Dublin commuter has strayed from the civic realm it constituted when Joyce wrote the Wandering Rocks chapter of Ulysses.

Moving Dublin is to be published in the form of a book and DVD in March 2009 by Gandon Editions

Moving Dublin has been commissioned by South Dublin County Council through In Context 3 and funded under the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government’s Per Cent for Art Scheme.

In Context 3 is South Dublin County Council’s Per Cent for Art programme. The basic premise of the programme is an over-riding objective for sensitivity to context in commissioning public art of excellence in South Dublin County, Ireland. The current phase of the programme, In Context 3, 2006-2009, sees an on-going commitment to sustainable public art projects in all art disciplines and active engagement with situation, community and place. The commissions being undertaken through this phase of the programme allow artists and others the time and opportunity to explore new ways of working and allow communities to find new ways of connecting with this work.

Appointments of artists to the In Context 3 programme were made between April and July 2006, following a several stage international open competition. These appointments include artistic residency commissions across a number of artistic disciplines awarded to Dermot Bolger, Anne Cleary and Denis Connolly, Bik van der Pol, Jackie Sumell, and Jenny Walshe, and a sculptural commission for the Kingswood Interchange awarded to Andreas Kopp.
